Chinbuns is a care app for small pets, built by one person. This policy explains what data exists, where it lives, and what happens to it — in plain language, because that’s how we do everything.
Your pet data stays on your device. We don’t have accounts, analytics, or ads. The only personal data we ever hold is your email address, and only if you join our mailing list yourself.
Everything you enter in Chinbuns is stored locally on your device — pet profiles, photos, weights, vet visits, medications, reminders, checklists, all of it. It is never sent to us or anyone else. We couldn’t look at it if we wanted to; there is no server behind the app.
Photos you add stay on your device. The app asks for photo library access only when you choose to add a picture.
Reminders use your device’s local notifications. Nothing is sent over the internet to deliver them.
Deleting the app deletes your data. There is no copy anywhere else, so back up anything you want to keep before uninstalling.
Report content link: the app’s “Spotted something wrong?” link opens your own email app addressed to hello@chinbuns.com. Emailing us is your choice; we use your message only to fix the content issue and reply to you.
If the app crashes, we’d like to know why so we can fix it. Crash reporting (via Sentry) is planned, and if it’s active in your version, it is asked for, not assumed — you’ll see a consent prompt, and declining changes nothing about how the app works. A crash report contains technical details (device model, OS version, what the code was doing when it failed) and no pet data. Legal basis: your consent, withdrawable any time in Settings.
chinbuns.com is a static site hosted by Netlify, with DNS by Cloudflare. Like most hosts, they process visitors’ IP addresses in server logs to deliver the site and keep it secure (legal basis: legitimate interest in running a functioning website). We have no analytics on the site and no cookies of our own.
Forms on this site. The species vote and feature-suggestion forms are processed by Netlify (already named above as our hosting provider). The species vote collects no personal data — just your pick and an optional comment. The suggestion form’s email field is optional, and if you provide it we use it only to reply to your suggestion, nothing else. Form submissions live in our Netlify dashboard and are deleted once acted on.
The mailing list is opt-in with double confirmation: you enter your email, then confirm by clicking a link we send you. Unconfirmed addresses never join the list. We use your address only to send occasional updates about Chinbuns (legal basis: your consent). Every email includes an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing removes you promptly, and you can also just reply and ask.
The list runs on EmailOctopus (Three Hearts Digital Ltd, UK), who store the addresses on our behalf and act only on our instructions.
Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time. These are your legal rights under the EU’s GDPR, and we extend them to everyone regardless of location. Since the only data we typically hold is an email address, most requests take one email to hello@chinbuns.com to sort out.
You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — in the Czech Republic, where Chinbuns is based, that’s the Office for Personal Data Protection (ÚOOÚ, uoou.gov.cz); every EU country has an equivalent.
Chinbuns is made for a general audience. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children — the app collects no personal data at all, and the mailing list is intended for adults.
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new effective date. If a change ever means data leaves your device (for example, optional cloud sync in the future), that will be opt-in and clearly explained — never silent.
